A weekly market has been held on this site since 1736
There was a time when you could buy almost anything here
Furniture, fresh meat poultry and fish, crockery, toys, clothing.
You name it, you could get it here.
While parting with your cash, you would be entertained by an assortment of
buskers, fire-eaters, magicians and the act that I remember best, the
escapologist.
After a few years in the doldrums, things are looking up once again for the Market.
Since 2007 about forty or so local traders have opened up stalls on the Quayside.
Locally produced pottery, paintings, jewellery, cheeses and furniture are just some of the items that can be seen on the stalls these days.
